About

tugboat Island

Tugboat Island is located in Port Neches Riverfront Park, Port Neches, Texas. The Port Neches community has a population of approximately 14,000. Port Neches Riverfront Park serves Port Neches, Groves, Port Arthur and Nederland communities as well as neighboring communities throughout southeast Texas. The county population is over 250,000.

During the summer months, Port Neches Riverfront Park draws families from far and near adding to the parks usage. The park is also home to Riverfront boat ramps and pavilion rentals for birthday parties, weddings and other special events. Port Neches Riverfest is an attraction every year in May, offering a wide variety of free family music, boat racing, carnival, food and many events during the festival.

With the rebuild of Tugboat Island, we believe the park will attract additional visitors from throughout the area.

Help us Restore Tugboat Island!

For 25 years, for many different reasons, Tugboat Island has been dear to all our hearts. Many southeast Texans raised our children there, many of us have a brick with our family name out there and many of us helped build Tugboat Island 25 years ago. It has been part of our community bond for over a quarter of a century. Through birthday parties, field trips and long summer days the last generation of children grew up together on that park. When the playground was built there was nothing of its kind anywhere in our area. For years many area schools have been bringing busses of kids from all over southeast Texas to enjoy our spectacular park. Tugboat Island is part of what makes our Port Neches special. It is part of what keeps this small towns heart beating. The part that keeps the kids outside playing together, living innocently and enjoying a wholesome life. The part that helps us raise free thinking children that love to explore and learn. The part that helps them grow into brave and successful adults.

We can never repay the Women of the Pride League of Port Neches along with Mayor Glenn Johnson for the gift they gave us with the original Tugboat Island. We can only honor them by replacing it with a bigger and better more ability inclusive playground for our children’s children to make last memories at the park. They were the pioneers who showed us the way. They led us to Leathers & Associates to teach us how. It is our turn now to continue on the great legacy.

Restore tugboat island

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit

So not only are you filling a wonderfully charitable need for your community, but it is tax deductible!

Our organization is formed exclusively of volunteers. Therefore, 100 percent of all fund-raising dollars go directly toward the playground project.

Restore Tugboat Island will not just be any park and we hope to maximize the community goodwill throughout our PR campaign far beyond the borders of Port Neches.

Leather & Associates

We have chosen to work with Leathers & Associates, a design firm, that specializes in custom-design community-built projects. Leathers has designed more than 2,000 projects throughout the US and seven foreign countries. Leathers & Associates is the design firm that helped us build the last park that made lasting memories for children all over southeast Texas.

Construction will be a river theme playground that will be constructed with green materials, 95% post-consumer recycled plastic.

The playground will be built by hundreds of volunteers from the community in 2025. Building the playground with free volunteer labor will save over 25% of the cost compared to a manufactured installed playground.

This means every dollar will buy much more fun for the children of our community and all those who visit the park!
